Dear Orange,
chinese new year without my yeye and ahma is v v different. Now i realise that it is the existence of our grandparents which bind us to the chinese culture and tradition. Its a shame that this culture, this festive mood and season is gradually eroding away..replaced by emptyness?
Lots of my friends are complaining that cny is getting really boring and meaningless, nothing like before.
I miss those days years back where we go our yeye's house to bai nian and he'll cook up sumptous meals for all of us. Then we, the young ones, will start filling our stomachs with new year goodies and start chasing each other around the house. I remember our excited faces when we line up for ang pows and the big smiley red faces when we were running up and down the stairs playing block catching. I really miss those days! Reuniion dinner is never the same nowadays. Without yeye and big uncle, it is really not like a reunion anymore. Hai..

How i wish i can have a time machine and travel back to year 2000. I miss Yeye. He is like the roots bonding the chan family together. Without him, we are not even meeting up for cny anymore. It is extremely saddening..
But anywae,
first day of cny is naturally spent at ah gong's house. We woke up pretty late. Dad drove us to temple to visit yeye. Read out the letter i wrote to him..haha abit sad. Well..after that headed to ah gong's house. Alot of our relatives reached already, so i just collected some ang pows and went around interacting with my cousins. When my younger cousins arrived, we headed to jp to play arcade! LOL! I pucked up a new skill today!! I finally know the trick to catching arcade bears! OMG! My sis miraculously caught one!! Haha when she did i was cheering and laughing away at the top of my voice! Too high to realise that alot of ppl are actually staring. Haha.. ok i take it that they're happy for us too! HAHA!!=D Fun!
After that headed back to ah gong's house. Played cards. I won about 10 bucks..haha quite a lucky year for me!

Second day was quite sian. Dad's friends came to our house..total close to 20 of them? Most of the time was sitting in front of the tv doing nothing. Anyway,we're strangers afterall. Towards the end, it got slightly better. We gambled a little and then a few of us went downstairs to play bball. Hahha.. actually i cannot play coz of my hand but did run about abit anywae. Darrell dropped by to say hi.lol. Thats enought to perk me up after a long boring day.And haha! There's this little boyboy called Weijie. Damn cute! Was playing with him the whole day and for the whole time he never stopped giggling away! I wish i can be as a carefree and happy as him!

Oh and reunion dinner. Nothing much. Dont feel like its one coz my impression of a reunion dinner have always been that of a large family gathering. This year's only my family and my uncle's. Well...the food is not bad afterall. and again, the few cousins went down to play bball which my dad and uncle later joined in. Haha!=D

Alright..this year's cny is overall a five out of ten. Haha..i bet next year it'll be failing. I wonder whether we'll still be celebrating this festival 2 decades later. I'll miss the old days!=(

with love,
cjiam
